Preventative Maintenance
Just as you service and tune your vehicle every 3 months to ensure that it works efficiently, you should also clean your computer components to help them to stay in good working condition
Why Cleaning is Important
- Depending on the environment that your computer operates in, will determine how often you should clean you computer
- In Barbados, dust and dirt is everywhere and even if you work in an air-conditioned environment, the dust will still get into your system
- Dust is certain to accumulate and eventually it will prevent electrical components from radiating out heat. Dust can even create short circuits
- Computer systems and printers build up excessive dust that settles and remains until it is baked on. A blanket forms on the components and they eventually break down from excessive heat build up
- Also, dirty and unsanitary computers and office equipment are a factor in the spreading of sickness in the work place
Effects of Dust and Dirt on Equipment
- Dirt and dust are very abrasive on moving parts like the hard drive heads, keyboard contacts, printer gears
- Dust and especially particles of cigarette smoke can build up on the motherboard and corrode and cause various problems such as computer locking and freezing
- Dirt, dust and hair can build up causing the keyboard not to function
- A dirty mouse prevents the mouse from moving correctly causing erratic mouse movement
- Dirty read/write heads on the floppy drive can cause errors during the read or write process
- Dirty CD’s can cause read errors as well as CD’s not to work at all
- Dirty CD-ROM drives can cause CD’s to encounter read errors
- Dirt and finger prints can cause the monitor to be difficult to read
Other Cleaning Aspects
- Our cleaning process is not just limited to cleaning dust and dirt. We also perform a complete a diagnostic of your computer system to ensure that all is well.
- Viruses have become a pervasive problem for any computer user who goes online or uses disks that have been in other computers. We scan for viruses and diagnose operational problems and even prevent their occurrence. It is a good idea to purchase a dedicated anti-virus program and frequently acquire periodic updates, which are needed to recognize new and different viruses
- Motherboards are checked for healthy batteries and corrosion
- Software maintenance is done on the hard drive
- Modern computers generate large amounts of heat. All cases and CPU chips should be fitted with fans. The small fans on CPUs are prone to failure from accumulations of dust and fibers and should be checked regularly to make sure all case and CPU fans are functioning at full capacity.
